Background History of the Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination

Introduction

  1. To become an industrialized country, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar  is required to build the much more industries and also needed to export the equipments from abroad in order to perform the such activities as it is entailed to set up the equipments in local ,Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination was formed aiming to accomplish the industrial researches and development activities more successfully on 23rd July 1998 according to the Order No (26/98)under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
  2. Metallurgical Research Division (Ela) was transferred to the Myanmar Science and Technology Research Division under the Ministry of Science and Technology from the Department of Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration, Ministry of Mines on 1stJuly 1998 ,in the same way, Metallurgical Research Division (Ela) was assigned to the Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination on 1st March 2000 and Biotechnology Research Center and Biotechnology Master Center at Yangon Technological University, the Department of Advanced Science and Technology was designated to the Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination on 16th August 2001, moreover,  Technology Promotion Training Center (Belin) was organized to implement the technology promotion and coordination activities in 2010.Therefore, the three main Divisions are founded from 1998 -1999 to 2014- 2019 under the Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination-

  1. Starting from April 2015, the Computer Universities under the Department of Advanced Science and Technology and Technological Universities totally (60) Universities and Technology Promotion Training Center (Belin), Automotive Technology Research Institute (Pyin Oo Lwin), Technology Innovation and Promotion Training School (Information and Communication Technology Research Division),Intellectual Property Division , Technology Research Division (Myaing) and ICT Development and Coordination Division were reformed under Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination and Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination was responsible to implement the administration and financial activities in addition to the previous Research Divisions ,Training School for (60) Universities of Technological Universities and Computer Universities. Then, the nine Sub –Divisions are appointed from 2015-2016 Fiscal Year to August 2017 in accordance with the Organization Structure of Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination-

(d) Technology Research Division (Myaing)

(e) Technology Innovation and Promotion Training School (Hlaing)

(f) Intellectual Property Division

(h)Technological Universities and Computer Universities (60)

(i) Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and Division/ State (15) Offices

  1. Thereafter, Department of Atomic Energy, Biotechnology Research Division and Materials Science Research Department were incorporated as the Sub –Divisions under the Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination with Letter No, Admin (Organization)/2016(10094) on 22nd September 2016 of Ministry of Education. Therefore, the eight Sub-Divisions are reorganized in the Organization Structure of Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination starting from 2016-2017 to 26th September 2021-

  1. The development of technology and systematic utilization is involving the vital role of the socio economic development process of the State and Department of Technology Promotion and Coordination is reformed by the following five Sub-Divisions starting from the 27th September 2021 to be implemented the Technological Promotion and Coordination activities systematically for the first priority between the Government and Non -Governmental Organizations –

(e) Information and Communication Technology Development and Coordination Division
